SIMILARITY

ESSENTIAL CONCEPTS

  • Similarity transformations (dilations) cause shapes to change in predictable ways - corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding sides are proportional. These relationships can be utilized to model and solve a variety of real-world problems.

  • You can prove two figures are similar without knowing every measurement of the figures.

  • Proof involves showing that something must be (or always is) true. It is different from showing a few examples and often involves reasoning from definitions or previously established facts.
